How to License a Food Truck or Mobile Café: Required Documents and Conditions

Many young people are interested in food trucks and mobile cafés as small business opportunities that can provide employment and generate income.

Egypt’s Law No. 92 of 2018 regulates mobile food units, while its executive regulations specify the licensing procedures and required documents.

The license is issued by the Occupancy Department of the competent administrative authority. Applicants must submit personal information, a valid national ID, a recent criminal record certificate, military or public service documents where applicable, and a valid traffic license if the unit is a road vehicle.

Applicants must also provide an approved certificate from the National Food Safety Authority confirming that the vehicle, cart or platform meets the relevant food-safety technical requirements, in addition to a valid health certificate for anyone handling food.

For associations, non-governmental organizations and development funds applying for a license, an approved summary of the organization’s bylaws must also be submitted, proving its legal status and authorization to operate mobile food units.

The license is valid for three years and can be renewed, with an annual fee of up to EGP 5,000, payable in cash, by accepted check or through electronic payment methods.
