We Used Them to Gain People’s Sympathy” — 9 Suspects Confess to Exploiting 14 Children in Giza

Nine suspects have confessed before investigators in Giza to exploiting 14 children at risk by involving them in begging, soliciting money from passersby and aggressively selling goods in several areas across the governorate.

The suspects admitted that they deliberately sent the children into the streets to gain citizens’ sympathy and collect money.

Suspects Reveal Details of Child Exploitation

During questioning, the suspects admitted that the children found with them were being used to beg and sell goods in an aggressive manner.

They said they exploited the children’s young age and ability to attract sympathy in order to make financial gains. The suspects also admitted that they regularly took the children to crowded areas and encouraged them to approach passersby and persuade them to purchase goods.

9 Suspects Arrested With 14 Children

The General Administration for Juvenile Welfare Investigations, affiliated with the Specialized Police Sector, arrested two men and seven women, four of whom had previous criminal records, for allegedly exploiting 14 children at risk in begging and aggressive street vending activities across Giza Governorate.

After being confronted with the findings of investigations, the suspects admitted their activities, and the necessary legal measures were taken.

Children Returned to Their Families

Following the required legal procedures, the children were handed over to their families, who signed the necessary undertakings to properly care for them.

Authorities also coordinated with the relevant agencies regarding children whose families could not be located, with preparations underway to place them in appropriate care facilities.

The authorities continue efforts to combat child exploitation and protect children from being exposed to dangerous conditions, while taking legal action against those involved in exploiting them.
