Release of 3 Defendants Accused of Misusing Social Media on Bail

Prosecution charges them with spreading false news and joining a terrorist group

The competent authorities decided to release 3 defendants on bail at their place of residence pending investigations conducted by the Public Prosecution in several different cases related to charges of broadcasting false news and misusing social media platforms.

The decision included the release of Alaa Adel Sadek, Mohamed Mohamed Soliman, and Mahmoud Meftah. The prosecution accused them of joining a group established in violation of the law with the aim of calling for the disruption of the provisions of the constitution and laws, and preventing state institutions and public authorities from performing their duties. They were also charged with deliberately publishing false news, information and data about the political and economic conditions in the country with the intent to disturb public peace and undermine confidence in state institutions.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution had begun investigating the defendants in the presence of their lawyers, based on security investigations that indicated their involvement in the crimes they were charged with. The charges included spreading false news about the political and economic situation in the country to disturb public peace within the framework of the objectives of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, promoting the group’s goals aimed at undermining confidence in the Egyptian state and its institutions, participating in a terrorist group to achieve its goals, criminal conspiracy, assembly, and using private accounts on the international information network to commit a crime punishable by law with the aim of disrupting public order.
