Brothers Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison for Assaulting Their Mother in Sayeda Zeinab

A misdemeanor court has sentenced two brothers to one year and six months in prison and a fine of EGP 20,000 after they were accused of verbally and physically assaulting their mother inside the family home in the Sayeda Zeinab area of Cairo.

The incident reportedly followed a dispute after the mother refused to give her sons money.

South Cairo Public Prosecution had referred the two defendants to an expedited misdemeanor trial approximately 12 hours after the incident.

Dispute Over Money Leads to Assault

Security authorities investigated the incident after a video showed a woman allegedly being assaulted. Officers identified the woman as a housewife who lives within the jurisdiction of the Sayeda Zeinab Police Department.

During questioning, the woman reported her two sons, stating that they verbally and physically assaulted her on August 27 while they were inside the family home because she refused to give them money.

Suspects Arrested and Admit to Incident

Security authorities identified and arrested the two suspects. They were found to be the woman's sons. One of them works as a butcher, while the occupation of his brother was not specified by authorities. Both live within the Sayeda Zeinab Police Department jurisdiction.

When questioned, the two brothers admitted to committing the incident, consistent with the findings of the investigation and their mother's account, confirming that the dispute began after she refused to give them money.

The necessary legal procedures were taken, and the case was referred for an expedited trial, which resulted in the prison sentence and fine.
