Al-Azhar Academy Honors 52 Imams and Preachers from 9 Countries
Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers honored 52 imams and preachers from nine countries on Monday at the conclusion of the 143rd edition of its “Contemporary Preacher Preparation” program, held from July 9 to August 31, 2026.
The program brought together participants from India, Congo, Gambia, Bangladesh, Algeria, Nigeria, Djibouti, Togo and Ghana, providing them with an integrated academic and training program combining Islamic scholarship with modern preaching skills.
Dr. Hassan El-Saghir, head of Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers, said the participants represent an extension of Al-Azhar’s global religious and educational mission.
He emphasized that the participants are not merely recipients of knowledge, but ambassadors of balanced religious discourse who will return to their countries carrying the responsibility of promoting authentic Islamic values, moderation, coexistence and social peace.
The honored imams and preachers expressed their appreciation for Al-Azhar and Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, stressing that the program provided them with valuable academic and preaching experience and introduced them to a balanced approach to contemporary intellectual and social challenges.
They also affirmed their determination to transfer what they learned to their communities and promote mercy, moderation and tolerance.
