60,000 Evacuated, 101,000 Hectares Destroyed.. Wildfires Devour Major Washington City*
Wildfires driven by strong winds and soaring temperatures forced the evacuation of *60,000 people* from Spokane in eastern Washington state. The fires destroyed more than *600 homes and commercial buildings*. Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown called it *"the worst natural disaster our region has ever seen."*
15 major fires were burning across the state on Sunday, scorching nearly *390 square miles equivalent to over 101,000 hectares*. Around *4,000 people* are involved in firefighting efforts.
