Egypt Astronomy Institute: 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake 61 KM Northeast of Sharm El Sheikh, No Casualties Reported

The *National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics* announced that its seismic network recorded an earthquake on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 3:06 AM.
According to the institute, the quake measured *5.6 on the Richter scale*, with its epicenter located *61 KM northeast of Sharm El Sheikh*.
The institute confirmed that *no casualties or property damage have been reported* so far.
Many residents in *Cairo and several governorates* felt the tremor which lasted for several seconds. Egypt is far from the world's seven seismic belts but its proximity to active zones like the *Gulf of Aqaba, Gulf of Suez, and the Red Sea* makes it prone to moderate tremors.
