Drug Testing Campaign Targets School Bus Drivers in 6th of October

The Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse launched an immediate drug-testing campaign after a video circulated on social media showing a driver apparently in an unbalanced condition while boarding a bus outside a school in 6th of October.

In coordination with the Ministry of Interior, the fund's drug-testing unit visited the area surrounding the school and conducted drug tests on drivers transporting students.

The campaign was carried out in cooperation with the General Administration for Drug Control, the General Administration of Traffic, the Central Administration of the General Secretariat of Mental Health at the Ministry of Health, and the Central Administration for Security at the Ministry of Education.

Drug tests were conducted on nine drivers, and all samples came back negative.

The fund also clarified that the school does not employ drivers. The buses are privately owned, while parents contract with the owners to transport their children to school.

The driver shown in the circulated video was arrested. Authorities found that he had a criminal record and did not hold a valid driving license.

The fund stressed that drug-testing campaigns targeting school bus drivers will continue throughout the academic year, with campaigns expanding to different governorates.

Parents are urged to report any suspected drug use by school bus drivers through the fund's hotline 16023. Surprise and confidential testing campaigns will be conducted when necessary, and anyone found driving under the influence of drugs will face the required legal procedures.
