Metro, LRT and Monorail Schedules and Student Subscription Prices Ahead of New School Year

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport has raised the state of readiness across the three Cairo Metro lines, the Light Rail Transit LRT, and the East Nile Monorail ahead of the new academic year.

The measures include maintaining regular operating schedules, deploying additional empty trains during morning and evening peak hours, preparing emergency teams to deal with unexpected technical problems, and coordinating with transport police to ensure the safety of passengers and stations.

The three Metro lines operate a total of 1,508 daily trips, including 456 trips on Line 1, 602 on Line 2 and 450 on Line 3. The LRT operates 243 daily trips, while the East Nile Monorail operates 142 daily trips.

Metro Operating Hours

Metro services start from 5:15 AM. The first trains depart from Helwan, New El Marg, Shubra El Kheima and El Moneib at 5:15 AM.

The final trains leave Helwan and New El Marg at 11:40 PM, Shubra El Kheima at 11:55 PM, and El Moneib at 12:05 AM.

Last-train connections between Metro lines are also coordinated at Sadat, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Ataba and Cairo University stations.

LRT Operating Hours

The LRT operates from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with trains running approximately every 8 minutes during peak hours.

The first train from Adly Mansour toward Arts and Culture departs at 6:00 AM, while the last services operate according to the published schedule, with final departures toward Badr reaching 10:45 PM.

East Nile Monorail

The East Nile Monorail starts daily service at 6:00 AM from Adly Mansour and Cairo Stadium stations, with the last trains departing at 7:50 PM.

The average headway is 12 minutes.

Student Metro Subscription Prices

Student subscription prices are:

- EGP 150 for one zone.

- EGP 200 for two zones.

- EGP 250 for three zones.

- EGP 300 for four zones.

Discounts range between 91% and 92%, depending on the number of zones.

Subscription Offices

Metro subscription offices operate daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM at designated stations across the three lines.

LRT subscriptions are available at ticket windows across all 12 stations, while the current system offers a 30-day multiple-trip card rather than personal subscriptions.

For the East Nile Monorail, ticket and subscription sales are available at stations throughout operating hours. There are currently no special student subscriptions for the East Nile Monorail.
