Hazem El Gendy: Chinese President’s Visit to Egypt Offers Opportunity for a New Phase in Bilateral Relations
MP Engineer Hazem El Gendy, member of the Egyptian Senate and member of the Supreme Committee of the Wafd Party, said the expected visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Egypt represents an important opportunity to launch a new phase of Egyptian-Chinese relations based on a balanced strategic and economic partnership.
El Gendy explained that the next phase should be built on a clear formula in which China serves as a partner in manufacturing and technology, while Egypt becomes a regional production and export hub serving Arab and African markets.
He stressed that the visit carries significant political and strategic importance and reflects the advanced level of understanding and partnership between Egypt and China.
El Gendy called for transforming the strong political relationship into a sustainable economic and industrial partnership, emphasizing that cooperation should go beyond trade exchange and individual projects to focus on joint investment, manufacturing and technology transfer.
He also highlighted Egypt’s strategic geographic location, the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and its network of trade agreements as key advantages that can help Egypt become a regional hub for Chinese investments and industries targeting Arab and African markets.
The senator stressed the importance of attracting high-value-added industries, particularly electric vehicles and their components, renewable energy, electronics, engineering industries and advanced technology.
He concluded by emphasizing the need to use the visit to strengthen Egyptian-Chinese partnerships that can increase exports, support import substitution and improve the trade balance, helping the Egyptian economy achieve sustainable growth based on production and investment
