3 Suspects Confess to Firing Fireworks at Citizens From a Tuk-Tuk in Cairo

Three unemployed men confessed before investigators in Cairo to firing fireworks at citizens from a tuk-tuk while traveling along one of the city’s streets.

The suspects said their actions were carried out as a form of amusement, following the circulation of a video on social media documenting the incident.

Suspects Reveal Details of the Incident

According to their statements, the suspects gathered inside the tuk-tuk before its driver began traveling through one of Cairo’s streets.

They then fired fireworks toward citizens as a prank, without considering the possible consequences of their actions.

The suspects said they had not intended to injure anyone. Their identities were later established and they were arrested after the video circulated online.

Suspects Arrested After Video Circulated

Security services monitored a social media post accompanied by a video showing a tuk-tuk driver and his companions firing fireworks toward citizens on a Cairo street.

Following intensified investigations, authorities identified and seized the tuk-tuk shown in the video, along with its driver and two passengers. All three were residents of the First El-Salam Police Department area.

Seized Items Reveal Another Theft

During the arrest, security forces found six copper sleeves and an iron pipe in the suspects’ possession.

When questioned, the suspects confessed to the fireworks incident, saying it occurred on the 27th of the current month for amusement.

They also admitted that the seized items had been obtained from the theft of a metalworking workshop in the First El-Salam Police Department area. The theft allegedly occurred one day before the fireworks incident.

Workshop Owner Confirms Theft

The owner of the metalworking workshop was summoned and questioned about the seized items. He confirmed that they belonged to him and that his workshop had been robbed, adding that he had not filed an official report at the time of the theft.

Legal procedures are being taken against the suspects based on their confessions and the findings of the investigations, ahead of their referral to the competent investigative authorities.
