Unemployed Man Referred to Misdemeanor Court for Allegedly Stealing Woman’s Mobile Phone by Distraction
The South Cairo Prosecution has referred an unemployed man to misdemeanor court on charges of stealing a woman’s mobile phone from inside a medical laboratory using a distraction method.
Details of the Incident
The Ministry of Interior revealed the circumstances surrounding a social media post accompanied by a video clip that was circulated on social networking platforms. The post involved a woman complaining that a man had stolen her mobile phone from inside her workplace in Cairo.
Following investigations, authorities found that no official reports had initially been filed regarding the incident. Police were able to identify the woman who published the post, who was an employee at a medical laboratory and resides within the jurisdiction of the Misr Al-Qadima Police Department.
When questioned, she stated that on the 2nd of the current month, an unidentified man stole her mobile phone from inside the laboratory where she worked, using a distraction method.
Arrest of the Suspect
Security forces identified and arrested the suspect. He was found to be an unemployed man with previous criminal records and a resident of the Al-Basatin Police Department jurisdiction.
The stolen mobile phone was found in his possession. When confronted, he confessed to committing the theft as described by the victim.
The necessary legal procedures were taken against him, and the case was referred to the competent authorities before the suspect was referred to misdemeanor court.
