`IRGC: Hormuz Reopening Depends on US Accepting Iran's Conditions`

Iran’s IRGC links reopening the Strait of Hormuz to US acceptance of Tehran’s terms. FM Araghchi says Iran and Oman are close to a new maritime route deal.

Tehran sets terms for Hormuz as Iran-Oman talks advance on new shipping lane.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Sardar Mohbi, told Tasnim that reopening the Strait of Hormuz depends on the US accepting Iran’s conditions and ending interference in regional negotiations. "If the US accepts Iranian conditions, the Strait of Hormuz will definitely be opened," he said.

*Strategic Leverage
He stressed that reopening is subject to Tehran’s own mechanisms and is unrelated to Iran-Oman talks, adding that Hormuz is not just an economic waterway but an element of geographic and strategic power.

*Iran-Oman Talks
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran and Muscat are very close to an agreement on a new shipping route through Hormuz. He noted reopening also hinges on compensation for US violations of the Islamabad memorandum.
He added that the previous traffic separation scheme is no longer acceptable to Tehran and a new route is needed, with Iranian and Omani navies discussing maps to define it.
