Minister Hani Sewilam meets Arab League Secretary General. Egypt to host 17th Arab Ministerial Council for Water and assume presidency in October 2026.

Egypt to host Arab Water Council in October 2026 and assume presidency for one year.

*Dr. Hani Sewilam*, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, met with *Ambassador Nabil Fahmy*, Secretary General of the *Arab League*, to discuss enhancing joint Arab cooperation on *water security*.

Sewilam announced that *Egypt will host the 17th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Water* from *October 24-26, 2026* during *Cairo Water Week 9*, and will assume the *Council presidency for one year*.

He stressed the need to activate *water diplomacy* and enhance cooperation on shared water resources amid growing challenges. *19 out of 22 Arab countries* face water scarcity, with *90% of the Arab population* living in water-scarce nations.

The meeting also covered preparations for the *7th Arab Water Conference* on *October 26-27, 2026* under the theme "Water in the Arab Region: Partnerships for Peace and Sustainable Development".
