Bedtime Supplications in Islam

Bedtime supplications are among the recommended practices taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslims are encouraged to remember Allah before sleeping by reciting authentic prayers and Quranic verses.

Among the recommended practices are reciting Ayat al-Kursi, the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas. The Prophet also taught Muslims to say: “In Your name, my Lord, I lie down and in Your name I rise.”

Other authentic supplications ask Allah for protection, mercy, and well-being. Muslims are also encouraged to perform ablution before sleeping and lie on their right side.

There is no single mandatory order for all bedtime supplications. Muslims may recite the authentic remembrances that they know, while observing specific instructions reported in the Sunnah.

These practices offer an opportunity to remember Allah, follow the Prophet’s guidance, and end the day with prayer and reflection.
